Cricket's Three Formats and How Betting Differs

jitabet Cricket Match Betting Markets

T20 — The Fast Game

T20 cricket is the shortest format — results are decided in just 20 overs. BPL and IPL are two major tournaments in this format and are extremely popular with Bangladeshi fans. In this format the situation changes rapidly with every ball, so the scope for live betting is much wider.

ODI — The Strategic Contest

In a One Day International (ODI) match, two teams compete over 50 overs. The ICC World Cup is played in ODI format and during this time the volume and variety of bets increases significantly. In ODIs there is an opportunity to review bets mid-match by looking at batting and bowling statistics.

Test — The Five-Day Challenge

Test cricket is the longest and most strategically rich format. Play continues over five days and the pitch condition, wickets and weather all combine to decide the outcome. For this reason a draw is a possible result in a Test match, which does not exist in T20 or ODI — and this difference is reflected in the betting markets as well.

Cricket betting and all other forms of betting are for persons aged 21 and above only. Betting is entertainment — please play responsibly.

jitabet Popular Betting Markets

There are many ways to bet on a cricket match. The six markets below are the most commonly used and each requires a different betting approach.

Match Winner

The simplest and most common bet — pick which team will win the match. Example: Team A wins at decimal odds of 2.10, Team B wins at 1.75 — a ৳500 bet on Team B returns ৳875 if Team B wins.

Toss Winner

A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. This is a completely independent event — it has no direct connection to the match result. Winning the toss can sometimes be an advantage in T20 format, which is why this market attracts interest.

Top Batsman

A bet on which batsman will score the most runs in the match. Pitch condition and batting order play an important role in this market. The form of a team's leading batsman can be a useful factor to consider.

Total Runs Over/Under

Choose between over (more) or under (less) runs than a set number. Example: "total runs over 160" — consider the pitch, weather and the teams' batting strength.

Multi Bet

Combine selections from multiple matches into a single bet. If three selections have odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.60, the combined odds are 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.60 = 3.36 — a ৳100 bet returns ৳336 if all win. However, if one loses, the entire bet is lost.

Top Wicket-Taker

A bet on which bowler will take the most wickets in the match. Pace bowler vs spinner — the type of pitch can help make a more informed decision in this market.

A Simple Guide to Understanding Odds

Betting odds are written in three different formats — decimal, fractional and American. All three express the same probability, just written differently. Two examples below make this clear:

Format Team A (Underdog) Team B (Favourite)
Decimal 2.25 1.25
Fractional 5/4 1/4
American +125 −400

Example 1 — Betting on the Underdog (Team A)

Team A's odds to win are 2.25 in decimal, 5/4 in fractional and +125 in American. A ৳200 bet returns ৳450 if Team A wins (profit ৳250 + original stake ৳200). If Team A loses, the full ৳200 is lost.

Example 2 — Betting on the Favourite (Team B)

Team B's odds to win are 1.25 in decimal, 1/4 in fractional and −400 in American (meaning you must bet ৳400 to win ৳100 profit). A ৳200 bet returns ৳250 if Team B wins (profit of just ৳50), but the full ৳200 is lost if they lose.

In American odds, the "−" number means that amount must be bet to win ৳100 profit — this sign identifies the favourite. "+" means more profit is possible than the amount staked.

jitabet generally displays prices in decimal odds. However, you can switch the format to your preference. Odds change in real time, especially during live matches.

Live In-Play Betting — Bet While the Match Is On

jitabet Live In-Play Cricket Betting Screen

With live betting you can place bets even after the match has started, and odds are recalculated after each wicket or over. This is the most dynamic part of cricket betting.

How Do Odds Change When a Wicket Falls?

Say Team A is batting and their top two batsmen are dismissed quickly. In that situation, Team A's odds to win rise sharply (meaning their chance of winning has dropped) and Team B's odds to win fall. These moments in live betting create new opportunities.

How Odds Shift Over by Over

In the last five overs of a T20, as the required run rate climbs, the batting team's odds to win keep shifting. If 60 runs are needed in 15 overs, that is manageable for the batting side — odds are lower. But if those runs are needed in 18 overs, the odds will move fast.

Cash-Out Feature

Many bets can be settled before the match ends (cash-out) — to take a partial profit or avoid further loss. This is an important advantage of live betting.

Football and Other Sports

Alongside cricket, jitabet also offers betting on football and several other sports. Football has three possible outcomes — home team win, away team win or draw — so the odds structure is slightly different from cricket. ODI and T20 cricket have no draw, meaning only two outcomes exist and the betting structure is simpler.

Cricket vs Football Betting

  • Cricket has more innings-based markets
  • Half-time/full-time bets are popular in football
  • A draw is a valid result in Test cricket
  • Live in-play is available in both sports
  • Both sports can be combined in a multi bet

Five Tips for Staying Aware While Betting

01

Set a Budget

Before each match, decide how much you will bet. Not going beyond that limit is the most important rule. Betting is for entertainment — not a source of income.

02

Focus on One Market

Rather than spreading across many markets at once, start by getting comfortable with simpler markets like match winner or total runs over/under.

03

No Rushing in Live Betting

Odds change quickly during a match — watch for a while and understand the situation before placing a bet rather than deciding on impulse.

04

Consider the Format and Pitch

A "top wicket-taker" bet on a pace bowler is less logical on a spin-friendly pitch. Keep the format and ground conditions in mind.

05

Follow Responsible Betting Practices

Betting more to recover losses is dangerous. Read the responsible gaming guidelines to keep betting a healthy form of entertainment.

06

Know the Rules and Terms

Find out in advance what happens if a bet is cancelled, a match is abandoned or a result is disputed — read jitabet's terms and conditions beforehand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both BPL and IPL are played in T20 format. Markets available include match winner, toss winner, total runs over/under, top batsman, top wicket-taker and multi bet. Live in-play markets are also available — new betting opportunities open up after each over.

Yes. Test cricket has three possible outcomes — Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. That is why the match winner market in a Test match shows three options. T20 and ODI formats have no draw, so only two options are available there.

Multiple selections can be added to a multi bet. Example with three selections: if the odds are 1.40, 1.50 and 1.60, the combined odds are 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.60 = 3.36. A ৳100 bet returns ৳336 if all three win. Keep in mind — if any one selection loses, the entire bet is lost. More selections increase the potential return but also increase the risk.

Yes, odds update in real time during live in-play betting. When an important wicket falls or a big six or boundary is hit, the odds shift within moments. This means quick decisions are possible in live betting — but it is important to bet with a clear head rather than on impulse.

In American odds, the "−" sign means that team or outcome is the favourite. "−400" means you need to bet ৳400 to win ৳100 profit. On the other hand, "+125" means a ৳100 bet can return ৳125 in profit. With decimal odds the calculation is simpler — 1.25 means a ৳100 bet returns ৳125 in total.
